NOT EVERYTHING YOU READ IN A NEWSPAPER IS TRUE.  Advertisers often create ads that look like legitimate editorial pieces, but unfortunately they are for the sole purpose of promoting their own products, and generally they contain a few misleading ideas or statements that can create unnecessary fear and anxiety in the consumer.

BFF Foam Corp. would like to dispel a few of these concerns about the foams used in our products.  Here are a number of true statements about BFF’s polyurethane foam, manufactured in North America, by Foamex International Inc.:

  • Foam is an inert substance once it has been cured.  Contrary to recent newspaper reports there is no data to support any argument that foam in its cured state will produce any toxic “off gassing” or produce any carcinogenic or volatile organic compounds.
  • Our foam products DO NOT contain PBDE’s (Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers), a chemical that is used as a fire retardant in some polyurethane foam.
  • Our foam products DO NOT contain any CFC’s (Chlorofluorocarbons), which is better for us and better for our ozone layer.
  • In most of our foams either water or CO2 are used as a blowing agents, where needed, which produces no “off gassing”. In our patented VPF foams, water is used where needed and the foams are mechanically altered reducing the need for extra chemicals.
  • Most of our foam grades are now “NATURAL”.  A portion of the petrochemical used in the manufacturing process is now being replaced with renewable plant based polyols. These plant-based products are plentiful, renewable and help us to produce a more natural product aiding in reducing the carbon footprint.
  • Foamex International uses a method called Variable Pressure Foaming (VPF) Technology that sets the standard in environmentally responsible foam manufacturing.  VPF manufacturing provides higher yields from raw materials than traditional foaming methods as well as reducing air emissions. VPF technology exceeds the Clean Air Act requirements.
  • The glue BFF uses is water based and is Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified.
  • We recycle 100% of our new foam scraps into a new product called “rebond”, thus almost eliminating new product being sent to the landfill. We also encourage our customers to send us their scrap, so we can recycle that too!
Remember that not all polyurethane foams are made the same.  Each manufacturer has their own methods, and it is important for you to research the origins of your foam and what the manufacturer has used in their manufacturing process.
